Hempstead town salt trucks out in full force on roads
The snowstorm is expected to make for treacherous conditions on Long Island's roads, especially for the morning commute.
Hempstead Town Supervisor Laura Gillen says crews came to the Hempstead Town Yard in Roosevelt around 6 p.m. Sunday to monitor the storm.
As soon as the rain stopped, they sent out 160 trucks to salt about 1,200 miles of roadway.
Gillen says once there is more accumulation, the salting operation will change to a plowing operation.
She says each truck has GPS, so they can track where they have been. They can also alert residents when roads will be plowed.
