A Hempstead police officer was arrested on sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child and official misconduct charges Thursday.
Nassau's Acting District Attorney Madeline Singas says the assault happened back in June. According to Singas, the assault occurred in the victim's car in the parking lot of a Hempstead restaurant while her 10-year-old child was in the back seat.
Singas says Louis Arcila, a 16-year veteran of the force, was off duty and wearing his badge at the time.
Arcila's attorney says the victim in this case has changed her story and that his client was not wearing his badge nor did he assault the woman. The Hempstead Village PBA told News 12 in a statement, "We are confident that the officer will be vindicated once all of the facts are presented in court."
Arcila was released without bail. He's due back in court next month.
