Health officials are warning people about the possibility of a new COVID-19 variant emerging.
On Saturday, Dr. Anthony Fauci said he agrees with the World Health Organization that the virus is no longer a global threat. However, he also stated that stemming the spread of the virus overall remains critical to keep it from mutating into a variant that current treatments cannot control.
FDA advisors agree that the next round of COVID boosters to come off manufacturing lines should contain a single strain of the virus to target the Omicron spinoff XBB.1.5. This marks the first time the vaccines will not include the original strain of COVID-19.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is also revamping its website in order to streamline information and make it easier for visitors to use.
"We were really used to having our audience be public health workers and healthcare workers. But now all of a sudden, people were coming to CDC website themselves,” said CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky.
