Forecast:
Afternoon highs will climb into the low 70s, which is still below the seasonal average of 82 degrees.
Later today into early Thursday, a system moving in from the west will bring showers and thunderstorms across Connecticut. Don’t forget your umbrella if you’re heading out some areas could see heavy, prolonged rain that might lead to localized flooding tonight.
Signs are pointing to a cooler finish to August, and Hurricane Erin is playing a role in that. Even though she’s staying well offshore, her broad wind field is helping to pull down some of that cooler Canadian air.
Hurricane Erin is passing over 300 miles to the east, but it is such a massive storm and the front helping to steer Erin away from the east coast will allow winds to buffet the area Thursday.
Coastal flooding during high tide will be of concern too. Tides run higher than average during new and full moons. We will almost be at a new moon today/tomorrow so we should expect minor to moderate flooding during high tide starting Wednesday and lasting thru Friday's early high tide cycle.
