While parts of Sound Avenue in Wading River were flooded due to the storm, most of the Town of Riverhead escaped any major damage.
Riverhead Town Supervisor Yvette Aguiar says normally storms like Elsa cause flooding from the Peconic River. This time she says they were ready.
"We were very concerned with the riverfront, and we had a team out here," says Aguiar. "Next week we are getting a mitigation plan and our riverfront is not going to flood anymore."
At Oakland's Restaurant and Marina in Hampton Bays workers were prepared for the worst, tying down boats and securing outdoor tables and chairs.
"We were fine. We got a lot of rain overnight. Of course, the wind is very heavy with the north wind coming at the back of the restaurant. That's always the biggest challenge with bringing customers in - we don't want the food flying off the plates," says Christine Oakland-Hill.
Some surfers also made their way down to the beach to catch some waves in the wake of the storm.
