A Long Island group rallied today in support of a group heading to Washington to fight a loss in funding for workshops that provide much-needed jobs to people with disabilities.

Members of United Cerebral Palsy of Nassau County will be providing public testimony on sheltered workshops before the president's advisory committee. Sheltered workshops provide a supervised workplace for physically disabled or mentally handicapped adults.

Karen Hittleman, of UNCP of Nassau County, says funding has shifted so those taking part in sheltered workshops no longer get paid. She says sheltered workshops are expected to be phased out in New York by 2020.

News 12 contacted Reps. Lee Zeldin, Peter King, Steve Israel and Kathleen Rice, but did not receive a response from them regarding the funding cut.
