On the eve of the seventh anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, ground was broken on a memorial to honor Suffolk residents who died that day.
The memorial at Armed Forces Plaza in Hauppauge will feature four walls of glass surrounding a garden, which cannot be accessed. On each glass panel will appear the name, biographical information and a hologram image of each of the 180 county residents who perished in the attacks.
Victims? family members say the Garden of Remembrance will be a fitting tribute to their loved ones? memory.
"You just gotta remember that person you loved was a hero, so you have to be strong too for the rest of your family,? says Darcie Scauso, who lost her father on Sept. 11.
The construction will officially start in four to five weeks and will be completed by Sept. 11, 2009.
