Nearly three weeks after reinstating full bus fares, the general manager of Greater Bridgeport Transit tells New 12 they are seeing a decrease in ridership.
Doug Holcomb says while ridership is down 15 to 20%, he does expect numbers to bounce back.
"We don't have any experience with post-pandemic ridership returns," Holcolm says. "This is the first time we've done that, but in the past when we've changed fares, increased fares, we have seen dips of 9 to 10%, and normally ridership begins to grow right after the dip."
GBT, like all public transit systems in Connecticut, reinstated fares to full price at the start of the month, after bus rides were made free during the pandemic.
