Gov. Kathy Hochul has revealed the first-ever cybersecurity strategy for New York.

The plan calls for an upgrade to state networks to support modern security technology.

The plan will also develop a state cybersecurity workforce and a program to educate New Yorkers about how the strategy works.

Hochul referenced the attack that hit Suffolk County.

"We already saw this in Suffolk County just a few months ago, literally almost brought to their knees because of a ransomware attack that forced many government functions to shut down or go offline," said Hochul.

Today’s announcement comes after a number of cyberattacks have battered the state.

The state’s Division of Homeland Security says it responded to 57 cyber incidents last year.
