A committee in Suffolk County met again Tuesday to focus on how to prevent another cyberattack.
As News 12 has reported, a preliminary investigation revealed hackers gained entry to the computer system through the town clerk’s network.
In June, during a hearing the IT director for the former county clerk testified and said he issued multiple warnings about the cybersecurity issues the county was facing. However, Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone’s office says he was lying.
Hundreds of thousands of Suffolk residents had personal information compromise when it happened in September of 2022.
The attack promoted county web applications to go down for nearly six months.
Also on the agenda at Tuesday’s committee meeting was sworn testimony from a systems analyst supervisor for the county.
