Frank Labidi, a known car racer, according to the district attorney, is accused of driving with safety stability controls disabled, speeding and spinning out while at max acceleration, crashing into a tree and killing Lindsey Parke and Alexa Duryea. The crash happened on West Old Country Road in Hicksville.

Labidi pleaded not guilty at his arraignment on a grand jury indictment, charging him with two counts of manslaughter and two counts of assault.

District Attorney Anne Donnelly said he "chose to drive like he was on a racetrack instead of a public roadway" on Jan. 23.

Donnelly said passengers Parke and Duryea, both 19, were killed instantly.

"Unfortunately, they were driving faster than their guardian angel could fly that night and they weren’t able to be protected," Timothy Sitzman, Parke's brother, said following Labidi's arraignment.

Labidi, who is out on bail, is due back in court on April 28.
