Gov. Andrew Cuomo says there have been more social distancing violations on the East End, just a day after the state launched a probe into a charity concert in the Hamptons.
On Tuesday, Cuomo blasted Southampton town officials after seeing video of a drive-in concert headlined by The Chainsmokers, with Town Supervisor Jay Schneiderman's band as the opening act.
"Of course I never would've participated if I had any inkling that the organizers wouldn't strictly adhere to the permit," says Schneiderman.
But on Wednesday, Cuomo announced new violations in the village of Southampton, separate from the concert. He wasn't clear about what specific violations he was referring to, but he also seemed to claim that local officials and police weren't doing enough to enforce state guidelines.
"I think they've done probably a dozen enforcement actions in central New York, which proportionately is probably much higher than anything that's been done on Long Island," says Cuomo. "I need mayors, I need the supervisors on Long Island to step up."
News 12 reached out to the town supervisor's office, as well as the village mayor, for comment to see if they could shed some light on the violations. The calls have not been returned.
