Glen Cove celebrated Martin Luther King Jr. Day today with its annual parade and a special ceremony dedicated to destroying prejudice.
This year's parade featured a special dedication to Nelson Mandela, who died last month.
The parade ended at Finley Middle School, where a program was held. During the program, participants wrote down on cards different prejudices that they want to see eliminated.
The cards were then presented to the Glen Cove Fire Department, which supervised their burning.
Officials say the barrell burning ceremony has been a tradition for more than 10 years.
