Glen Cove mom pleads for help saving son's life
A Glen Cove mother is making a desperate plea on social media in an effort to find someone willing to try to save her son's life.
Nico Vigliotti has spent most of his 20 years with doctors in hospitals and attached to machines. When he was born, doctors told his mother he wouldn't live long. He had minutes at the most.
Nico suffers from such an unnamed and rare genetic disorder. He is missing part of a chromosome that affects his lungs, his brain and his thyroid.
"As a mother, it's earth shattering to not be able to protect your son. You're helpless," says Debbie Vigliotti.
She recently took matters into her own hands after posting a video on Facebook, pleading for anyone to help her son receive a double lung transplant. Vigliotti says two transplant centers have already turned them down because it is a complicated and risky procedure.
"There has to be one doctor. All I need is one out of millions of people in this country or even in the world…there has to be one that's going to take a chance," says Vigliotti.
Her online video reached a doctor in Houston who has agreed to look over Nico's case.
