As a Glen Cove man prepares to be sentenced for killing and dismembering his neighbor, the victim's family is working to make sure he stays behind bars for life.
Evan Marshall, 32, pleaded guilty in September to murder, assault and other charges in the August 2006 death of Denice Fox. Marshall admitted to driving around with Fox's head in his trunk afterward.
Marshall, who will be sentenced Dec. 5, has worked out a plea deal that may one day set him free. He is expected to be sentenced to at least 30 years. Fox's husband, Jay, and their children, Andrew and Rebecca, maintain they'll fight tooth and nail to stop that from happening.
"He's basically transferred the burden to us because in 30 years, it's going to be me and Rebecca and our kids and our families up before a parole board fighting to keep this guy behind bars," Andrew Fox said. "This is a sick individual."
While the victim's relatives have not attended any of Marshall's court appearances, they plan to be front and center for the sentencing. Some family members have also never returned to the crime scene at the home.
