The City of Glen Cove has passed a ban on the sale of e-cigarettes to minors.
In a unanimous vote, the Glen Cove City Council passed an amendment to an existing law, making it illegal to sell electronic cigarettes to anyone under 19.
The change would also restrict the advertising of e-cigarette products within 1,000 feet of a school, day care or youth center. Any advertisement would not be allowed on the exterior and even the interior of a business if the sign is seen from the outside.
Carol Meschkow, of the Tobacco Action Coalition of Long Island, calls the council members "trailblazers."
"They are really taking the lead in the fight against youth initiation," Meschkow told News 12.
