Runners raised awareness for organ donation at Eisenhower Park Sunday for the first "Give Life New York 5K."
One of the organizers, Mindy Davidson, is a living organ donor.
"I donated a kidney to a stranger two and a half years ago and it's one of the best things I've ever done. It's amazing to save someone's life," she said.
Event organizers told News 12 there are close to 9,000 people in New York who are in need of an organ transplant.
According to the State Donate Life Registry, New York has the third lowest organ donator population nationwide.
