Girls on the Run held their annual 5K run at Eisenhower Park.
The goal is to empower young females through running, so they learn their potential is limitless by pursuing their dreams.
“It's really designed to build confidence through accomplishment. And it's just the best thing ever to see these girls just beaming with confidence and pride as they cross the finish line with huge smiles on their faces…We have over 1,000 people here and 100 volunteer coaches that dedicate their time over the course of our season,” says Doreen Dunne, the council director of Girls on the Run.
On Long Island, 30 teams took part this season and the organization says they expect that number to grow.
