Fifty Girl Scouts from Suffolk County planted flags on veterans’ graves at Calverton National Cemetery over the weekend, according to troop leaders.

More than 500 flags were placed, leaders said.

Olivia Phillips of Shirley said, “We place the flags, we say the names out loud to really show that we understand that they’ve made that sacrifice, they made that decision and we wouldn’t be here without them.”

The girls also received special Calverton National Cemetery patches to wear on their sashes and vests.
