Gilgo Beach murder suspect Rex Heuermann was back in court and faced a judge on Wednesday.

For the first time since his arrest, Heuermann’s estranged wife Asa Ellerup came to her husband’s court appearance.

Ellerup’s attorney told News 12 that she is expected to be in court every time going forward. The attorney says that she wants to see the evidence against Heuermann for herself.

Defense attorney Michael Brown said, “They were married so many years and they raised a family together. To my knowledge she doesn’t believe he was capable or committed those acts, so he appreciates the support.”

The prosecution turned over more evidence, including lab work for the case and 13,000 photos from the search warrant.

The court appearance lasted only a few minutes. Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney said, “Primarily today what we turned over was all of the lab work that was done, as well as the underlying notes pertaining to that lab work.”

Brown, meanwhile, claims someone else was nearly arrested for this case years ago under a different district attorney.

Meanwhile, Heuermann signed over the deed to his Massapequa Park home to his estranged wife the same day he was served with divorce papers.

Heuermann is charged with the murders of three of the Gilgo Beach victims and is the prime suspect in a fourth Gilgo murder.  He has pleaded not guilty.

Heuermann is due back in court on Feb. 6.
