Officials say two women discovered a giant sea turtle that washed up on the beach in Fire Island this morning.

The women spotted the dead leatherback sea turtle off Surf Road at Ocean Beach around midnight. The turtle appears to be 6-feet long.

People at the beach who called News 12 think the turtle could be 200 years old.

The Riverhead Foundation plans to examine the turtle to see what could have caused its death.
