Friday marks exactly one year since the first confirmed positive COVID-19 case on Long Island.
Miguel Chamaidan, 42, of Uniondale, was the first to be hospitalized with the virus. He survived.
Since then, more than 311,000 cases have been diagnosed in Nassau and Suffolk.
At the peak of the pandemic in April, about 4,100 were hospitalized.
More than 6,000 Long Islanders have died.
