A freight train derailed just east of the Deer Park Long Island Railroad station Thursday around 9 a.m.
Officials say six cars of the train came off the track while one car flipped onto its side, unloading the construction materials it was carrying. There were no injuries, but LIRR service was suspended for more than an hour Thursday morning.
Buses were used to transport commuters west, while trains ran on the one clear track between Farmingdale and Ronkonkoma for eastbound commuters.
Thursday night service was suspended while night crews worked into the morning to pick the derailed car up and remove it from the track.
