Freeport Public Schools teamed up with Northwell Health for a live webinar Wednesday night to give parents some helpful advice as their children begin a new school year.
Health officials laid out some tips for parents on how to keep kids focused positively, whether they're going back to the classroom or continuing remote learning.
"It's really important to involve them, either routinely when they get home and in creating their environment where they're going to work, creating some of the schedules, and whatever decisions you can give them control over, are really important to do so," said Northwell Health Director of Pediatrics Dr. Vera Feuer.
Some decisions that parents are encouraged to give their children include letting them choose what masks they want to wear and what lunch box they want to bring.
Doctors said giving children a sense of control will help ease their anxiety and help them to pay attention better.
