A last-minute deal in Albany has some Village of Freeport officials crying foul.

The village was under the impression that it would be receiving the Freeport Armory on Babylon Turnpike. Instead, state officials approved a bill that handed the building to a church-related, nonprofit organization for $1.

Village officials say they wanted to move the Department of Public Works to the armory since the DPW's building was heavily damaged during Superstorm Sandy last October.

Sources inside village government tell News 12 that the bill's sponsor, Assemblywoman Earlene Hooper, has connections to the church.

Hooper's office has not yet returned calls for comment. Freeport Mayor Robert Kennedy says he has sent a letter to Gov. Andrew Cuomo, asking him to veto the bill.
