Police say a Freeport man was arrested Monday, accused of assaulting and hospitalizing a 2 ½-year-old girl.
Police say Wilson Reyes was baby-sitting the toddler inside a home on Archer Street on New Year's Eve when the attack took place. Authorities say he left her with cuts and bruises on her neck, face and torso.
The child was treated at a hospital and is expected to be OK.
Reyes, 21, was arraigned Tuesday on a charge of assault in the second degree.
Prosecutors say evidence includes statements from witnesses, an interview with the child, a videotaped statement from Reyes and photographs recovered from the house.
An order of protection was issued against him.
Detectives are also trying to determine whether there are more victims, including children Reyes baby-sat. They are asking anyone with information to call 516-573-4022.
