Suffolk County Legislator Sam Gonzalez held a free immigration clinic at the Bentwood Public Library to help undocumented families know their rights.
Families got to learn more about resources and services that are available to them in the county. Advocates say many undocumented immigrants on Long Island are living in fear.
"This is to inform the community what to do if approached by [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] agents. We want to ease the fears in the community," explained Gonzalez.
Long Islanders who attended the event were also given free legal and immigration advice and one-on-one counseling.
Legislator Gonazlez says he plans to hold several free immigration clinics in the upcoming weeks.
