A former principal for the William Floyd School District and substitute teacher for the Commack School District was arrested in Nebraska on rape charges.
Police say 37-year-old John Monetti of St. James, carried on a cross-country affair with a 15-year-old girl after meeting her on the Internet. Monetti was arrested after police found him with the teen in a minivan during a routine traffic stop in Nebraska. She told police she had several sexual encounters with Monetti.
William Floyd School District officials say Monetti was terminated in October 2005 for issues surrounding instruction and instructional leadership. At the Commack School District where Monetti was a substitute teacher until May 31, the superintendent said he was terminated on Wednesday over concerns about his attendance.
Monetti is being held without bond in Nebraska and will be arraigned next week on several sex crime charges.
