The Nest at Nassau Community College has been serving as a on-campus food pantry for almost a decade – offering students and members of the community food items, as well as clothing, toiletries and more.
When cafeteria services abruptly ended last month, the Nest was directly impacted. More students began visiting the food pantry - and with higher frequency.
Staff tells News 12 that they had to increase their grab-and-go section, and thanks to donations from local businesses and food banks, have been able to keep food on their shelves.
They say it has not been easy.
