"Eighteen to enter, 21 to drink" may be a popular promotion for Long Island bars, but police say it can be a dangerous combination.
News 12 Long Island?s Lauren Sivan accompanied Suffolk police on a raid of the Traxx bar in Ronkonkoma as they crack down on bars that may serve minors. Police say they are checking not only for bartenders serving illegally, but also for any code violations that could shut down the party.
Joined by K-9 units, a fire marshal, emergency services and three underage agents, cops also check for pre-mixed drinks, incorrect temperatures and overcrowding. Police say bartenders caught serving anyone without proper identification will be arrested.
In the event the bar is closed, cops say they will stick around and make sure anyone leaving is not driving while intoxicated.
