Flash floods forced some drivers to abandon their cars across Long Island on Thursday.
Several drivers near Long Island Expressway exit 56 in Hauppauge had to leave their cars while crews tried to clear away debris from storm drains. Drivers in Smithtown were also forced to abandon their vehicles.
Michael Samuels, of Farmingdale, said he got stuck under the train trestle just north of Sunrise Highway in Massapequa.
"Very deep water, up to the windows, it started coming into the car," said Samuels. "I thought I was going to drown." He then told News 12 Long Island that he had to swim to safety.
