Sudden and fast-moving thunderstorms wreaked havoc on parts of Long Island Tuesday evening.
Drivers in Huntington were forced to abandon their vehicles in the face of flooded streets. The rains poured in early in the evening and the added impact of the gusty winds provided for some dangerous rush-hour conditions.
In Huntington Manor, sparks from a power line ripped down by the winds shot into the air. The brief storms left about 1,000 LIPA customers without power and caused delays at New York-area airports.
The thunderstorms moved out of the area by Tuesday night.
