Members of the shuttered Five Towns Community Center recently rallied to return to the building and collect their belongings.
The community center in Lawrence was
closed in July after Nassau County decided not to renew the lease, citing poor maintenance.
Board members told News 12 that they are trying to find a new location for the dozens of children in its programs.
They also say the county will not allow them back inside to retrieve their items.
"They been giving us a hard time every step of the way. Ignoring calls, dragging their feet, not responding. As each day goes by, we are left in a deficit and can’t get our belongings to try to move,” said Five Towns Community Center President Gwynn Campbell.
News 12 reached out to Nassau County officials for comment and is waiting to hear back.
