Orange County is preparing its emergency response for the first significant storm of the season.
“We are expecting higher snow amounts north and west of 84,” said Brendan Casey, Orange County commissioner of emergency services. “For the county, anywhere between 3 and 8 inches.”
Casey says rescuers and crews are ready for heavy snowfall in the Greenville Mountain area of the county - including Port Jervis, Greenville, Deerpark and Mount Hope.
“We certainly think Greenville Mountain will be a bad mountain. It’s a high-elevation mountain that’s in a heavy snow corridor,” said Casey.
Casey says county officials and department heads will monitor the storm and coordinate sending out help to areas and people who need it from the Emergency Services Center in Goshen.
“We will be here all night in the emergency operations center,” said Casey. “We will have our partners in here from the state police, the sheriff’s office, DPW and all our essential personnel.”
Casey says the county is prepared and wants residents to be too.
He says motorists should avoid traveling in the county tonight and tomorrow morning, and advises homeowners to shore up any low-lying areas on their property to avoid flooding.
