A large fire that sent thick clouds of black smoke into the air and hampered train service Wednesday is under control in the Bronx.
More than 100 firefighters fought the flames at Apex Used Auto Parts at 1235 Bronx River Ave. Officials say oil and car parts fueled the fire outside of the building, but only one case of smoke inhalation was reported. However, the fire, which was near residences and railroad tracks, caused problems for Amtrak commuters and residents who were forced out of their homes.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation. The smoke could be seen from New Jersey.
