A fire destroyed the roof of a popular restaurant in Amityville early this morning.
Fire crews responded to the Bulldog Grille on Merrick Road after receiving a call around 1:40 a.m.
Eleven fire departments from Suffolk and Nassau counties responded to the blaze, due to hot weather and the age of the structure.
One firefighter says they were able to knock the fire out quickly, but the roof was destroyed and the building sustained plenty of water damage. One firefighter was taken to the hospital, but is expected to be OK.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The owner of the restaurant, as well as some employees were on the scene as firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze. They told News 12 that the Bulldog was a favorite neighborhood spot.
