Two separate crashes on the Meadowbrook State Parkway left two people dead and closed lanes in both directions Wednesday night.
Officials say the first crash unfolded just before 7:30 p.m. Wednesday between exits M6W and M5. State police say one person died as a result of the multivehicle crash. The East Meadow Fire Department said earlier in the night that four people in total suffered injuries.
All northbound lanes were closed for multiple hours as a result and traffic was diverted at Exit M6.
More details about the crash and what caused it have not been released.
About an hour later, state police say another multivehicle accident occurred on the southbound side of the Meadowbrook State Parkway.
One person was killed as a result of the collision, which occurred between exits M7 and M8, according to state police.
Traffic on the southbound side was also closed for multiple hours as a result of this accident.
