The Federal Emergency Management Agency released preliminary versions of its revised flood maps for Suffolk County Tuesday and recommends more buildings may need flood insurance.
The agency?s maps indicate a greater need for flood insurance in places like East Hampton Village, Nissequogue and Northport. However, fewer buildings in Babylon Village, Greenport and Patchogue may need to be insured.
The maps will be finalized after FEMA meets with elected officials and the public. Nassau?s maps have already been released and public hearings have been held.
Nassau residents can click here to find out if they live in a flood plain. FEMA says a similar Web site will be available for Suffolk residents in several weeks.
