The FDNY says it was called to a potential e-bike fire in Williamsburg on Friday. The fire broke out at the intersection of Broadway and Havemeyer Street in Williamsburg around 2 a.m. Emergency workers on the scene told News 12 the bike was chained to the lamp post, and the flames were so high they reached the traffic control box and the crosswalk signal. Maintenance crews were on the scene all day to make repairs to the traffic light, which was also impacted by the fire. Those walking by stopped to take pictures of the scene and comment on how dangerous these bikes can be. “I had to be on an e-bike one time and I was kind of scared because I heard of these fires,” said Jaxon, whose school is right around the corner from where the fire broke out. No injuries have been reported due to the fire.
