(11/15/06) FARMINGDALE - Police announced the arrests of two Long Island men and the indictment of a Farmingdale corporation Wednesday in connection with a billion-dollar illegal gambling ring.
The FBI and New York City Police Department arrested 27 people and indicted three corporations in total. Primary Development, of Farmingdale, is accused of developing and managing the illegal gambling Web site PlaywithAl.com. Police say the Web site took in $3.3 billion worldwide in a little more than two years.
According to the authorities, Frank Falzarano, of Seaford, was the operation's number two distributor. At the time of his arrest police say they confiscated $1 million in cash, sports memorabilia worth thousands of dollars and two handguns. Police say they informed Major League Baseball of Falzarano's arrest because he is a professional scout for the Washington Nationals.
Police report the case was cracked in Nassau County last year, when the FBI and NYPD secretly raided the hotel room of a Florida man allegedly in control of the gambling ring. They say they copied his hard drive, which revealed much about the operation.
