A Mastic man was arrested for allegedly beating his infant daughter while babysitting Sunday.
Suffolk Police charged 20-year-old Joshua Cohen with first degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child. He allegedly knocked his baby off a bed, kicked her in the head several times and violently shook her. When the child had difficulty breathing, police say he contacted the baby's mother at work.
The baby was transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital. When medical personnel discovered that the infant had unexplained internal head injuries, the child was transferred to Stony Brook University Medical Center for further tests and treatment.
Police have not released the name of the child or the mother.
