Residents of a Suffolk community took to the streets Saturday with rakes, gloves and garbage bags for a spring clean up, while others stood by in protest. Members of the Farmingville Residents Association picked up trash and planted flowers. The group says the town is often associated with illegal immigration issues, and says it wants to unify Farmingville and show a more positive side of their community by literally cleaning it up. However, some protestors of the clean up claim much of the trash was left by day workers in the area. They say by picking up after them, the clean up crew is encouraging illegal activity. Participants maintain Saturday?s cleaning is not about politics, it's about pride in their community.
