Several dozen families were displaced Saturday afternoon after an apartment building in Hempstead was damaged in a fire.
Officials say a total of five people were taken to the hospital all with minor injuries - four of them were firefighters.
Nassau County Assistant Chief Fire Marshall Michael Uttaro says 20 fire departments were called to the scene due to the risk presented by the excessive heat.
Hempstead fire officials say the blaze started on the second floor. The cause is still under investigation, but officials say it does not appear suspicious.
