Fairfield police are warning people about a scam involving jury duty.

Police say they have received reports of residents who have been contacted by scammers who claim they have missed jury duty and must pay a fine to police.

They are reminding people that no legitimate government agency would ever ask for a payment over the phone.

Anyone who receives one of these calls should not provide any personal or financial information and immediately hang up.

Those who are unsure if they have answered a potential scam phone call are welcome to call the department's non-emergency line at 203-254-4800 to verify.
