A jury awarded a former Baldwin schools administrator $5 million Wednesday in a sexual harassment suit against the school district.
Cheryl Farb spoke about her settlement publicly Thursday, saying ?I feel vindicated, but the pain that they caused me for several years is going to be very difficult to get over.?
Farb was dean of students at Baldwin Middle School. She says she filed a complaint with the district because Principal James Brown used sexually and racially suggestive language about her and her students. She says Brown then retaliated with a smear campaign and bad performance reviews which ended up getting her fired. She then sued the district.
District officials wouldn't comment if they have insurance to cover the judgment or if the $5 million would come out of the schools? operating budget. The Baldwin Union Free School District also refused to say if it would appeal the verdict. It did however confirm Brown is still the principal of the middle school.
Farb?s attorney says they tried to negotiate with the district before the trial but it refused.
