Customers are threatening to boycott the Equinox and SoulCycle fitness chains after reports that the chairman of their parent company is throwing a fundraiser for President Donald Trump.
Representatives for the chains say, "Neither Equinox nor SoulCycle have anything to do with the event later this week and do not support it."
A spokesperson for the gyms says that no company profits are used to fund politicians.
Equinox issued a statement saying, "Equinox and SoulCycle have nothing to do with the event and do not support it... Mr. Ross is a passive investor and is not involved in the management of either business."
Some Long Island gym members say they think the whole thing is ridiculous while others say they are unsure what they want to do with their membership.
As News 12 has previously reported billionaire real estate developer Stephen Ross is hosting a luncheon for President Trump tomorrow in Southampton.
Some attendees are expected to pay as much as $250,000 to personally meet Trump.
The Washington Post first reported Tuesday on the fundraiser in New York on Friday. A Republican campaign official, speaking on condition of anonymity because the event had not been officially announced, confirmed it to The Associated Press on Wednesday.
Ross has issued a statement saying, "I always have been an active participant in the democratic process." Ross and Trump have been friends for 40 years.
AP wires have contributed to this report.
