The Elmsford School District has officially appointed Susan Yom as superintendent.
"It is a true honor to join the Elmsford family," says Yom.
Yom has 29 years of experience in public education. She is also the former Nyack superintendent. She served as superintendent there from December 2022 to June 2024, and then stepped down.
Now, she's excited to start working with students, families and staff in Elmsford.
"I really want to spend that time really listening and learning and come to understand the daily experiences that you have as well as ways you want to see a future that you have yet to experience," says Yom. "It's the heart of teaching and learning and what we do for kids everyday that will make me so excited to come and join this family."
The school board is excited to welcome Yom to the district and says the search for the new superintendent took months.
"She has an incredible resume and is a talented, collaborative leader with a passion for education and school improvement," says James m. Ryan, interim superintendent.
The school board reviewed materials from more than 50 applicants and interviewed eight.
Yom’s first official day as superintendent will be on Jan. 2.
