East Meadow man accused of robbery outside Just Salad

An East Meadow man has been arrested for an alleged robbery outside a Just Salad on Saturday.
Nassau police say Mehmet A. Kumbasar and Ly-Neka M. Brown approached a 23-year-old man around 10:50 p.m. near 2411 Hempstead Turnpike. Kumbasar then allegedly struck the victim multiple times in the face with a closed fist and forcefully removed his backpack.
The 24-year-old and 27-year-old then began to take the victim's watch and various other electronics as well as broke his laptop before fleeing the scene, according to police.
Police located Kumbasar and Brown and arrested them without incident. Kumbasar possessed a controlled substance at the time of the arrest, according to police.
Kumbasar is charged with robbery, criminal mischief, assault, criminal possession of stolen property, and criminal possession of a controlled substance. Brown is charged with petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property. Both will be arraigned on Aug. 9 at the First District Court in Hempstead.
