A young boy is recovering from emergency facial surgery after he was mauled by three dogs in East Meadow Friday.
Police say the boy, named Matthew, was walking with his grandparents and baby sister when he was attacked by two rottweilers and an English bulldog. According to witnesses, family members tried punching the dogs and squirting them with a hose to get them off the boy. Witnesses say Matthew?s ears were hanging and his face was badly cut.
Matthew was rushed to Nassau University Medical Center, where doctors say he underwent the first of several facial surgeries. He is expected to be hospitalized at least a week. The dogs were taken to the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter. A court will decide whether or not they are put to sleep.
