Some Islip students are getting an explosive lesson in the space race.

Young scientists at East Islip Middle School are launching rockets as they study the space race and Newton's Three Laws of Motion, while figuring out how those laws work together.

To get this project off the ground the students first studied the history of rockets. They constructed their rockets by taking a soda bottle and adding on a cone of paper and a tube.
